DIY Xylitol Toothpaste – Uses All Natural Ingredients!

Resonate with us

This is the BEST toothpaste recipe I’ve EVER tried at home! It resembles commercial toothpaste in taste and texture and uses simple ingredients. Best of all it uses xylitol, known for its oral health benefits. The great thing is that you know EXACTLY what ingredients are going into your own toothpaste and you can choose whether you would like to add the optional ingredients. Perfect for the kids too, they love the taste.

Xylitol is a great sugar-free alternative and is keto-friendly and diabetic-friendly. It won’t spike blood sugar like cane sugar does. It’s also known for its benefits for dental health to prevent cavities and clean teeth.

Although Xylitol for mouth health has been known since the 70s, I had only recently discovered its benefits through Ellie Phillips DDS, who wrote the books Mouth Care Comes Clean and Kiss Your Dentist Goodbye. I highly recommend you read her books as she explains the reasons behind gum disease and gives natural solutions to control your mouth health. Xylitol is my number one arsenal in oral care, especially when protecting your children’s teeth from sugars, cakes, soft drinks, and other acidic and sugary foods that could cause tooth decay. I just HAD to share this information with you all. To know more about xylitol, you can read: Is Xylitol the panacea of total mouth care?

Who would have thought ‘sugar’ could protect and improve your mouth health?!

This is the BEST toothpaste recipe I've EVER tried at home! It resembles commercial toothpaste in taste and texture and uses simple ingredients. Best of all it uses xylitol, known for its oral health benefits.
Prep Time 10 minutes

Equipment

  • 1 spoon, spatula, fork, bowl, measuring spoon and small spoons.
  • 1 glass jar or empty toothpaste tube

Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp Calcium Carbonate
  • 2 tbsp Powdered Xylitol
  • 1 tsp Extra Virgin Coconut Oil
  • 3 tsp Distilled Water
  • 2 drops Peppermint Essential Oil (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1 Probiotic Capsule

Instructions

  • Add calcium carbonate to your bowl, powdered xylitol, bi-carb and the probiotic tablet. Mix all ingredients together with a fork until well incorporated.
  • Add 3 teaspoons of distilled water. If the mixture is still dry, add an extra 1/2 tsp of water at a time until it forms into a paste. Be careful not to add too much water or your toothpaste will turn out runny. Mix until no lumps remain.
  • Add your coconut oil and finally your peppermint oil. Place into your jar or toothpaste tube.

Notes

Lasts for approx. 1 week or 2 weeks when stored in the fridge.
Make sure to spit out your toothpaste in the trash to protect sink pipes from clogging due to coconut oil.
